Oversized hand bones forged from steel grasp an openwork bowl made from welded copper wire. Blackened through oxidation during the forging process, the skeletal hands embody the insatiable human desire to possess and refuse to let go. Yet the bowl they cling to is riddled with gaps and cannot fully contain anything.
Through this work, I sought to question my past self, who struggled desperately to possess and hold on to things: Of everything I tried so hard to grasp, what ultimately remains with me?
실제보다 크게 단조한 강철 손뼈들이 구리선을 용접해 만든 성긴 그릇을 붙잡고 있다. 단조 과정에서 검게 산화된 손뼈는 무언가를 소유하고 놓지 않으려는 인간의 과도한 욕망을 드러낸다. 그러나 손뼈가 붙잡고 있는 빈틈투성이의 그릇은 무엇도 온전히 담아낼 수 없다.
이 작업을 통해 무언가를 소유하고 붙잡으려 몸부림쳤던 과거의 나에게 묻고자 했다. 그렇게 필사적으로 붙잡으려 했던 것들 가운데, 결국 내게 남은 것은 무엇인가.
